Wearable Art Challenge:
Each year many guild members participate in our
wearable art challenge. For this event the Program Chair chooses a
packet of selected fabrics that the participants purchase. The rules
change somewhat each year, but the fabrics must all be used in the
garment that is created. Usually about 20 members complete their
projects and our program in November features a fashion show of these
fabulous garments. This is a judged event.
Mini Block Challenge
Each member makes 12 three-inch mini-blocks (all the same pattern), and exchanges them with 12 other participants, ending up with 12 different mini-blocks to make into a sampler quilt. Participants are allowed to choose fabric colors, and each provides one fabric that they want to have included in all 12 of their blocks. Completed sampler quilts are entered in the Quilt Show.
Five Block Challenge
Often, but not every year, the guild has a five-block challenge. Each member that participates makes 5 blocks, turns
them in anonymously, and chooses a set of 5 blocks made by someone else.
She then makes a quilt, wearable art item, or other fiber item using
the blocks. All the projects are shown at the same time several
months later.
Other Challenges
Other challenge projects are offered
occasionally.
