One of the Folsom Quilt and Fiber Guild's purposes is to educate the community in quilt and fiber art and to give back to our community. This is accomplished in many ways.
Each member is asked to make at least one Cuddle Quilt each year. The cuddle quilts are then distributed to selected charitable organizations in the greater Sacramento area.
The Breast Cancer Quilt Auction is a community service project to raise funds for Sutter Cancer Center's breast cancer research and patient treatment programs. The Folsom Quilt Guild members participate in this fund raiser by donating many quilts each year. Click here for more information on this Quilt auction.
Folsom Quilt and Fiber Guild have also contibuted many quilts to Quilts of Honor. Quilts of Honor create and award Quilts of Honor to the men and women of America who have courageously defended our freedoms. In 2010/2011 our guild held a quilt challenge to create red, white and blue quilts that were all donated to Quilts of Honor. This year Quilts of Honor will be holding sew-ins the first Friday of every month at the Fabric Garden, 2623 El Paseo Lane in Sacramento. Click here for more information on Quilts of Honor.
We introduce kids to quilting in our Quilt Day for Kids event which is held annually. They participate in small groups painting, stamping, sewing, creating and having fun while learning about quilting. Contact education@folsomquilt.org to learn more about this event.
