The programs for our general monthly meetings feature local, state or national quilt/fiber artists, activities for guild members, or entertainment. The programs often have associated workshops. Our guest speakers will introduce you to innovative and fun techniques that will give you new ideas for your own projects. Guest speakers usually have a worshop the day following the meeting. Click here for the workshop schedule.
Guests are invited to all meetings except the July and December meetings. The guest fee is $3.00 per meeting.

Speaker: Peggy Martin - "Beyond Tradition"
Peggy Martin began quilting in 1981, piecing and quilting everything by hand. A few years later, when quicker methods were being discovered, she became hooked on finding faster, easier ways to make quilts. When she began teaching in 1985, she continued to develop more streamlined, fast, fun methods of working. She enjoys expanding on traditional quilts with new variations and color-play. Her favorite quilts are those which are fast, easy to piece, and offer many design possibilities.

Speaker: Rob Appell - "Quilts From the Sea and Beyond - A Comic Relief Trunk Show"
Rob Appell blends his love for the ocean with his work as a textile artist and designer. A few years back, Rob landed a job in his Mother's Quilt Shop "The Cotton Ball" in Morro Bay, CA. It was at The Cotton Ball where Rob found a fondness for Hawaiian shirt making. Shirt scraps make beautiful quilts, and so does Rob. He learned to quilt by trial and error and definitely brings a masculine touch to this age old tradition. Most of his quilts bring the feel of artists Christian Lassen and Robert Wyland. Blending his fabrics from deep in the ocean to way up in the heavens, Rob's quilts are 100%machine made and focus on appliqué work.
Rob has designed fabric lines for Free Spirit Fabrics and Telegraph Road Studios, as well as appeared on "Simply Quilts", "Uncommon Threads," and "Behind the Seams". He also has an extensive line of Quilt Patterns for his original designs and a New Book "Making Waves...The Adventures of a Surf Quilter".

Bobbi makes prize-winning quilts, has a quilt in the collection of the American Museum of Folk Art in New York, and has exhibited at the International Quilt Festival in Houston and American Quilter’s Society in Paducah, Kentucky. Her love for exploring the history of quilts and their makers has led her to actively participate in the American Quilt Study Group, serving as a board member and co-curator of the study quilt exhibits. Bobbi Finley now resides back in her native state in San Jose, California, with her cat, Thomas, after residing for a while in Williamsburg, Virginia. She recently co-wrote a book called "The Quilt Revival".
