PLEASE CAREFULLY READ THE PROCEDURE FOR JUDGING YOUR ENTRIES!
2023 Guild Choose Your Adventure Wearable Challenge
Take a look at our new approach to this year’s wearable challenge!
- You design your own challenge based on either a real or imagined adventure!
- Think about what you will need on the adventure!
- It can be ANY wearable or accessory created with fabric or fiber, either new or “up-cycled.”
- Your entry must include a description of your real or imagined adventure, along with an explanation of how you are going to use your creation.
Entries will be modeled at the February Guild meeting where members will have an opportunity to vote on Members’ Awards for entries.
Prior to the guild meeting, entries will be professionally judged with the judge considering how well your entry reflects your real or imagined adventure, along with workmanship and visual appeal
The $5 entry fee will be used for professional judging, as well as for special awards.
Important
We must receive your “INTENT to PARTICIAPTE” form with $5 entry fee no later than the January 10, 2023 guild meeting in order for us to order/prepare awards and to schedule judging. You may submit your story about your adventure at that time or you may submit the story when you drop off your entry.
All entries will be displayed at the quilt show, along with your Adventure Story!

2023 Helen Hardwick Memorial Mini-Challenge
- The miniature challenge theme will be “Miniature Stars”. Each person participating in the challenge will design and complete their own quilt.
- There is no provided fabric for this challenge. You will provide your own fabric. Suggested fabrics are blue and white batiks to imitate the 2023 Opportunity Quilt.
- Each miniature quilt must include two or more of any block made from the provided foundation patterns. These blocks may be repeated any number of times in the finished mini.
- Each miniature quilt may finish any shape (square, rectangle, octagon, etc.). The completed miniature must measure 18” x 18” or smaller. This is absolute – entries that are larger than 18” in overall length or width will be disqualified from the challenge.
- The scale of all blocks and borders must be miniature. (If the entire quilt was enlarged to bed-size the design would remain in good proportion.) Another way to define ‘miniature scale’ – you cannot easily determine from a photograph if the quilt is large or miniature.
- Miniature scale appliqué and other techniques may be used instead of or in addition to piecing.
- To compete in the challenge, all miniatures must be quilted and bound with a sleeve attached before the February 14, 2023 meeting. Mini quilts will be professionally judged at that meeting for a fee of $5 to cover judging and awards. We will display the completed miniature quilts at that meeting and vote on Member’s Choice from the challenge entries.
- You are encouraged to enter your miniature in the miniature category at the 2023 FQFG show. There will not be a separate category for the Challenge Miniatures in the show. Challenge miniatures will be displayed together in the 2023 show.
