Tuesday, April 13, 2021—Ellen Lindner, “Confessions of a Fabric Whisperer”
Friday April 16, 2021 — Workshop: “Love It and Leaf It”

Ellen Lindner is a talented quilt artist and teacher, who is passionate about making fabric into art.  She says, “I make art for the pure joy of doing so!”  Known for its strong contrasts and vivid colors, her art has been shown throughout the United States, and beyond, has been commissioned by several well-known hospitals, and has been published in several magazines. Ellen has been seen on Quilting Arts TV, where she taught some of her techniques.  She’s also written two books and several magazine articles.

Her work is very diverse, ranging from pictorial still lifes to modernist abstracts.  In addition to using commercial fabrics, Ellen has recently started dying much of her own fabric. This enlivens her pieces and gives her one more way to control the results. She works in a freeform collage style, while borrowing heavily from traditional quilt making techniques.

Her lectures and workshops are always well received since Ellen’s enthusiasm for design, color, and experimentation is contagious! See more of Ellen's work and explore her website at www.adventurequilter.com/

Ellen will present her lecture on Tuesday, April 13 and the 3 hour workshop will be on Friday, April 16.

3-D quilt designer Rita Lynne will deliver her lecture “Follow the Path, even if you think you are lost,” Jan. 12.  She will use her innovative quilts and vessels to illustrate her talk about creating designs, trusting your talents and moving forward even if you are not sure what that means. Rita owns and operates Almost Heaven Designs which includes patterns, kits and fabrics. She designs all the patterns and kits. Her quilt patterns have appeared in Nancy’s Notions and AQS catalogs. Rita authored the only book on Texture Magic, a popular fabric manipulation product. She has several teaching videos with National Quilters Circle, an online teaching site. Rita also designs for several thread, fabric and batting manufacturers. January Workshop - Crazy Quilt Vessels
9 AM - 10:30, Thursday, January 14, 2021 AND and Friday, January 15, 2021
3-D quilt design is trending and Rita Lynne from Almost Heaven Designs will get us started with her beautiful, fun free-standing vessels.  Rita uses crazy quilt techniques to create the vessels and embellish them with beads, buttons, lace and—what else?  Beginners to advanced quilters will find success with this easy, creative technique, and you will leave the class with a completed vessel. In the class you will also learn how to design other vessels shapes.  This class will be taught  in 2 sessions, 1 and 1/2 hours the first morning and 1 and 1/2 hours the second morning.  Between sessions you have time to work on your design and come back ready to finish your vessel.  When you sign up for the class Rita will email you a vessel pattern.  The supply list includes a large variety of 4” x 4” fabric squares and embellishments from your stash.  Please continue to check this space for additional information and updates.

February 9, 2021, 7 PM— Susan Cleveland, “My Eclectic Quilt Pageant ”

Our February 9th meeting will host the delightful Susan Cleveland.  She  will talk to us about her Dynamic Dresdens quilt blocks. Her enthusiastic presentation will garner ooo’s and aaah’s, and laughter while she shows us her award winning quilts and presents ideas to give the Dresden Plate block a new, exciting look.   To list all of the honors Susan has received in her quilting career would take a page or two.  Take a trip to Susan’s website, piecesbewithyou.com and you will find a long list of Susan’s awards, publications, magazine articles, television and video presentations.
February Workshop: “Dynamic Dresdens”

Susan’s lively, detailed demo on February 10th, 9 a.m. will show us how to create contemporary or traditional Dresdens while avoiding the typical hazards that have frustrated many quilters in the past. In this 3-hour demo tips will be shared taking advantage of specialty tools and without specialty tools. Dresden units will lay flat with beautiful points … without applique centers! Dresdens create wonderful opportunities for fussy-cutting special fabrics to create spinning or kaleidoscopic effects. Dresdens may be cut from pieced strips to show layering effects. You can even insert piping into wedges for more layering effects and use ghost wedges to fool the eye! You’ll learn the Dresdens Over The Edge finish and a traditional finish so your quilts can be tailored to your preferences.
Supply list: paper and pen
Sign up for the interactive demo soon, we already have several participants and slots will go fast.  Call (916-722-8411) or email Lynn Daly, lynndaly7449@gmail.com.   The cost of the workshop is $35, you can mail checks to Lynn Daly, 8239 Holly Oak St., Citrus Heights, CA 95610.

March 9, 2021 — “Exploring Nature with Paper and Stitch”
March 10, 2021 Workshop — “Stitched Paper Collage”

David Owen Hastings is a quilter, graphic designer, print and textile artist, and the 2020 President of the Seattle Modern Quilt Guild, and he will be visiting Folsom Quilt and Fiber Guild in March. He creates richly-layered contemporary artwork and modern minimal quilt and textile designs. For over 20 years he has exhibited stitched paper artwork in galleries and juried shows.
In his creative approach to modern quilting he shares his knowledge, encourages creativity, and teaches new skills—like using paper instead of fabric for dynamic modern quilt designs. No need to be jealous of paper crafters and their fancy papers, quilters can use them, too. Or books, or art papers, or photos, or even junk mail!

The workshop, “Stitched Paper Collage,” will be presented, via ZOOM, on Wednesday, March 10, 9. a.m. to noon. Supply list for workshop is here.
Do not miss this adventure onto another creative path. David’s website is https://davidowenhastings.com .
